INTEGRAL EDITION OF IBERIA: THE DESIRE FOR ABSOLUTE RESPECT OF THE TEXT. In the light of the numerous errors seen in the early editions of Iberia (Mutelle and all those deriving from it) and left uncorrected by the composer, no doubt because he was very ill at the time, the need for research work was proposed and is summarized in a special edition, the Integral Revision of Iberia. This edition includes, on the one hand, the facsimile (text in Albéniz' handwriting), a document unpublished up till now,
dand therefore the first world edition and, on the other, a printed edition faithful to this original text and, finally, a revised edition which, whilst in no way altering the content of the text, adds redistributions and fingerings to facilitate its performance, based on the way in which Guillermo González plays it in concert, which has been given form in the Iberia CD from the NAXOS collection.

The pianist, GUILLERMO GONZÁLEZ, is considered to be one of the great specialists in Spanish music. He was awarded the 1991 National Music Prize and is also deeply studious and knowledgable about piano literature of all ages.
The task of researching and correcting Albéniz' work does not stop at Iberia. Guillermo González is continuing with his editing work according to the manuscripts, preparing Albeniz' three great pieces, La Vega, Navarra and Azulejos, apart from recording the Spanish composer's Integral for piano. Similar work is being undertaken with the Four Spanish pieces of Manuel de Falla, in accordance with the two manuscripts existing. | |
